Health For Armenia is preparing a new generation of doctor-leaders as part of its Healthcare Leadership Program. These trained family doctors will work in Armenia's rural regions, helping to strengthen healthcare across the country.
Today, the Minister of Health, Anahit Avanesyan, met with the first cohort of participants – young doctors and members of the inaugural group – of the Healthcare Leadership Program.
“The development of family medicine is especially important at this stage when reforming the primary healthcare system is a priority. When transitioning to a comprehensive health insurance system, the proper organization of the primary care level will be the best guarantee for a stable system that meets people's needs,” said Minister Anahit Avanesyan.
According to the Minister, starting the program with family doctors is no accident, as these trained specialists are the drivers of change and will bring transformation to their communities. The Doctor-Leaders, as they are known, have started their learning with an 8-week intensive bootcamp called the Healthcare Academy.
The young doctors shared their first impressions of the program and asked the Minister numerous questions regarding the working conditions for family doctors in rural areas, staffing policies, and offered suggestions on improving eHealth and protecting the rights of healthcare workers.
The program was launched thanks to a combined team of Armenia’s and the Diaspora's top experts and specialists.
