On November 3, 2024, the Health for Armenia Foundation hosted a landmark event at the Woods Center to officially launch its highly anticipated Healthcare Leadership Program. The program, designed to empower a new generation of Doctor-Leaders, aims to strengthen Armenia’s community healthcare system by developing essential skills and innovative thinking.

A Vision for Sustainable Healthcare Leadership

The event was honored by the presence of Mr. Artak Jumayan, the Deputy Minister of Health, who delivered the opening remarks. Mr. Jumayan emphasized the importance of this program in advancing healthcare leadership across Armenia, especially in rural areas where healthcare challenges are most pronounced. He expressed the ministry’s support for initiatives that aim to create a sustainable healthcare system with a focus on prevention and long-term community well-being.

Following his address, Mrs. Marina Ohanyan, a representative of the Family Medicine Academic Union healthcare NGO, highlighted the need for unity among family physicians. She stressed that collaboration and collective action are vital to improving Armenia’s healthcare system and ensuring its future resilience.

Partnership for Regional Empowerment

The program’s impact is strengthened through strategic partnerships, and Ms. Elena Abovyan, Executive Director of the HENAR Foundation, spoke about the collaboration between HENAR and Health for Armenia. She underscored how this partnership would help address Armenia’s unique healthcare challenges by fostering leadership, strategic thinking, and regional empowerment, all aimed at making healthcare more accessible and effective across the country.

Lusine Manukyan, Executive Director of Health for Armenia, presented the program’s vision and curriculum. She emphasized that the Healthcare Leadership Program is designed to equip participants with the knowledge, leadership abilities, and practical experience needed to drive change and inspire innovation within their communities.

Support from Key Partners

The event was made possible through the generous support of sponsoring foundations, including the Hovnanian Foundation and AMAA. These organizations played an instrumental role in bringing the program to life, and their continued support will ensure its success in training a new generation of healthcare leaders.

The day concluded with heartfelt remarks from Dr. Inga Akhtieva, a Doctor-Leader and one of the program participants, who shared her excitement about being part of this transformative initiative. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to implement meaningful changes in her community and beyond, exemplifying the kind of impact the program aims to create.
